Small, Hand-Held Voting Device.jpgWhat’s better than inviting friends around to try out your new toys?  ChiLab had a few friends over to the office for a drink and a trial run of their new polling machines.  A good time was had by all!

These small, hand-held devices – not even as big as the remote for your television – add an entirely new dimension to any learning experience.  They ensure the entire session is interactive, provide immediate feedback to the trainer and keep participants totally involved.

Most importantly, they are anonymous.  The natural reluctance to answer a question, for fear of being wrong or looking stupid, is taken right out of the equation as participants give their answers freely by simply pressing one of a number of buttons on the machine.  The data from all answers given is immediately shown on the presenter’s screen.

There are many uses for this technology in education and ChiLab is at the forefront of innovative teaching once again.

“It is possible to capture the data and use the technology for assessments etc,” said ChiLab Program Manager Anastasia Mak.

“But we find the best use to be as a simple question and answer tool during a presentation.  Everyone gets involved and it gives us an immediate and accurate take on what the participants know or think about the subject we are talking about. The immediate feedback is invaluable.”

The Class.jpgChiLab Managing Director Bruce Stinson was equally enthusiastic.

"Everyone who teaches anything knows that at times you have no idea for periods of five, ten or even fifteen minutes whether the class is with you or not,” he said.

"Simply asking questions does not give the true picture for a variety of reasons. By planning sessions carefully and using this technology, we have continuous, accurate feedback on which direction the class is taking and whether the message is getting through or not”
